In the coming period, Ingka Investments Romania will continue regeneration activities in mature spruce stands located within Forest Management Unit (FMU) XVII Tibau, situated in the counties of Maramureș and Suceava.
These areas are production forests managed primarily for the cultivation of high-quality, large-dimension timber intended for sawn wood products (Functional Type VI).
The activities are prescribed in the forest management plan and involve the phased application of silvicultural treatments specific to spruce forests, including clear-cut strips and small clear-cut areas, followed by forest regeneration.
Spruce has a relatively shallow root system, and even-aged spruce stands are particularly vulnerable to windthrow and snow damage. For this reason, the orientation and sequence of harvesting operations are determined based on topography, prevailing wind directions, stand conditions and regeneration progress, with the objective of reducing the risk of destabilising neighbouring forest areas.
Natural regeneration will be promoted as the preferred approach and supplemented by planting where necessary. The objective is to establish a new forest generation adapted to local site conditions while maintaining spruce as the main tree species, in accordance with the composition defined in the forest management plan.
During the implementation of the works, measures will be applied to protect soils, water resources, existing regeneration and biodiversity values. The development of the new forest generation will be monitored, and maintenance and supplementary planting activities will continue until successful establishment is achieved.
